The Triconex 8311 power supply module delivers regulated DC power to Tricon and Trident chassis systems. This module converts AC mains into stable 5 V and 24 V DC outputs for all connected modules. This power supply module accepts an input voltage range of 100 V to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz with auto-ranging. The unit delivers two isolated DC outputs: 5 V at 12 A and 24 V at 4 A for backplane distribution. Total output power reaches 156 watts, supporting fully populated chassis with high I/O density. Additionally, the module includes active inrush current limiting that prevents circuit breaker tripping during startup.

Protection Features and Redundancy Support

The Triconex 8311 incorporates comprehensive protection circuits for safe system operation. Overvoltage protection clamps each output at safe levels to prevent module damage. Short-circuit protection limits output currents and automatically recovers after fault removal. The module supports redundant configurations with two power supplies in parallel for fault tolerance.

Thermal Management and Cooling Design

This power supply module utilizes forced-air cooling through a temperature-controlled fan for efficient heat dissipation. The fan maintains stable internal temperatures even under full load conditions. The unit derates its output capacity by 2.5% per degree Celsius above 50°C. The front panel includes ventilation slots that require at least 50 mm clearance for adequate airflow.

Diagnostic Indicators and Monitoring

Front-panel LEDs indicate power status for both DC output rails and overall module health. A DC OK relay contact provides remote monitoring of the 5 V output condition. The module also features a collective fault signal that activates upon any protection event. These diagnostic tools simplify preventive maintenance and troubleshooting planning.

Installation and System Integration

You can install this power supply module in the dedicated power slot of Tricon or Trident chassis. The module connects to the backplane via a high-current connector for automatic voltage distribution. Always connect the protective earth terminal before energizing the unit. For redundant configurations, install two power supplies with isolation diodes for seamless failover. The operating temperature range spans from 0°C to 60°C with non-condensing humidity up to 95%.
