Flexible Input Configuration

The 6ES5385-8MB11 accepts multiple signal types for versatile counting applications. You can connect standard 24 V DC proximity sensors, 5 V differential encoders, or NAMUR-compliant devices. Each channel operates independently with its own gate and reset inputs. This flexibility allows the module to handle diverse measurement tasks simultaneously.

High-Speed Counting Performance

This counting module processes pulses at up to 100 kHz per channel, capturing rapid events without missing counts. The hardware counter runs independently of the PLC scan cycle, ensuring accurate readings every time. You can select between 16-bit or 32-bit resolution depending on your application requirements. Consequently, this module handles everything from simple part counting to precise position tracking.

Multiple Operating Modes

The 6ES5385-8MB11 supports incremental, decremental, and quadrature encoder counting modes. For quadrature encoders, the module offers 1x, 2x, or 4x signal evaluation for enhanced resolution. The gate input enables on-the-fly start/stop control for gated counting operations. The reset input allows asynchronous counter clearing under hardware or software command. These various modes suit applications like conveyor indexing and flow totalization.

Integrated Setpoint Comparison

This module includes two comparison outputs per channel for closed-loop control applications. When the counter reaches a programmed setpoint, the module triggers an output signal instantly. This feature eliminates the need for the PLC processor to poll the count value continuously. Therefore, the 6ES5385-8MB11 reduces processor overhead and ensures fast response times.

Reliable Isolation and Construction

The 6ES5385-8MB11 provides 500 V AC isolation between counting inputs and the backplane logic. This isolation protects sensitive circuitry from electrical noise and ground loops. The compact 25 mm width maximizes cabinet space, while the 0.45 kg weight simplifies installation. You can mount this module on standard DIN rails or integrate it into 19-inch racks easily.
