Redundancy Functionality

The 140SHS94500 loadable software module delivers automatic hot standby redundancy for mission-critical Modicon Quantum control systems. This firmware resides on a pre-loaded PCMCIA memory card and installs directly into the processor module’s dedicated slot. Upon installation, it enables seamless active/standby configuration between two identically configured Quantum CPUs. Consequently, if the primary processor fails or loses communication, the standby unit assumes control without interrupting production processes.

Bumpless Transfer Mechanism

This redundancy software ensures a bumpless switchover with typical transfer times of only 150 milliseconds, minimizing process disturbances. The 140SHS94500 maintains continuous data synchronization between active and standby processors, updating all I/O states and internal variables periodically. Furthermore, the synchronization process occurs automatically in the background, requiring no user intervention or programming effort.

Processor Compatibility

The 140SHS94500 supports multiple Quantum processor models, including the 140CPU65150, 140CPU65260, and 140CPU67160 high-performance controllers. Users should verify their specific CPU model supports this redundancy firmware before installation. Additionally, both processors in the redundant pair must run identical firmware versions to ensure proper synchronization.
