The GE IS200ERDDH1A IS200ERDDH1ABA includes one discharge resistor and one switching IGBT. Additionally, it features one fiber optic input for trigger signals. A single 6-pin terminal block connects the field circuit. The board contains 1 IGBT, 1 discharge resistor, 1 gate driver, 2 voltage sensors, 1 status LED, 6 resistors, and 8 capacitors.

GE IS200ERDDH1A IS200ERDDH1ABA stores minimal energy in one snubber capacitor. This capacitor provides 10 µF at 1000V rating for IGBT protection. Consequently, the board safely absorbs switching transients during field discharge. Therefore, the IGBT remains protected from voltage spikes.

Design and Integration

Both the GE IS200ERDDH1A and IS200ERDDH1ABA versions share identical discharge topology. These boards use four-layer PCB construction with high-voltage isolation for safety. Consequently, the GE IS200ERDDH1A IS200ERDDH1ABA operates reliably from -10°C to +55°C ambient temperature.

For installation, you need M3 screws for the four mounting holes. The board draws 50 mA typical control power from an external 24V DC supply. The discharge resistor requires adequate airflow for cooling. We recommend using 12 AWG wire for the field circuit connections.

Practical Application

This dynamic discharge board safely dissipates generator field energy during emergency shutdowns. It activates the IGBT upon receiving a trip command via fiber optic. The GE IS200ERDDH1A IS200ERDDH1ABA then routes field current through the discharge resistor. Therefore, it protects the exciter and generator from overvoltage during fault conditions.
