Engineered for Generator Field Discharge Applications
This module safely dissipates stored energy from generator fields. It provides rapid de-excitation for the GE 246B2357BAG03 system. You will find this unit in synchronous generator and motor control panels. Unlike standard discharge devices, this module uses advanced thyristor switching. It removes field energy within 50 milliseconds of a trip command.
Technical Specifications & Physical Dimensions
We designed this de-excitation module for reliable field discharge. The table below presents all verified technical specifications.
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Physical Dimensions (W x H x D) | 200mm x 150mm x 80mm |
| Total Weight | 2.8 kg (2800 grams) |
| Maximum Field Voltage | 600V DC |
| Continuous Field Current | 25 Amps |
| Peak Discharge Current | 150 Amps (for 50ms) |

Functional Architecture and Energy Dissipation
This module connects across the generator field winding terminals. It uses two anti-parallel thyristors for bidirectional current control. You must provide an external trip signal to activate the module. Moreover, the unit includes a high-wattage discharge resistor. This component converts stored magnetic energy into heat. Consequently, the module prevents dangerous overvoltage during field circuit interruption.
Installation and Operational Guidelines
The GE 246B2357BAG03 requires a 24V DC trigger signal for activation. It dissipates up to 11 kilojoules per discharge event. You must mount this module vertically for proper heat convection. Always connect the field cables to terminals F1 and F2 correctly. This procedure ensures the thyristors receive the correct polarity. Furthermore, the module includes an internal snubber circuit. This feature suppresses voltage transients from long field cables.
Physical Characteristics and Environmental Limits
This de-excitation module has a rugged, open-frame chassis design. Its substantial 2.8 kg weight reflects the heavy-duty resistor construction. The layout follows GE’s standard high-power clearance specifications. Therefore, it mounts inside generator control cabinets with adequate ventilation. The module requires 50mm of free space above and below for cooling. In addition, it maintains stable operation between -10°C and 50°C ambient temperature. You can store this unit safely up to 70°C.
