Overview

The Triconex MP3101 S2 Main Processor Module forms a critical part of the Trident system, designed for safety-critical and high-availability applications. Each Trident system requires at least one MP baseplate containing three independent Main Processor (MP) modules. Each MP operates as an independent channel, performing system executive functions and managing I/O operations to ensure reliable, fault-tolerant performance.

Processor and Firmware Components

• System Executive (SX): Controls application execution, system diagnostics, TriBus communication, voting, and TriStation/Modbus interactions.
• Input/Output Executive (IOX): Manages I/O communication, including ASIC interfacing, I/O control, and diagnostics.

Main Processor Specifications

Application Processor:

• Processor: Motorola MPC860, 32-bit, 50 MHz
• Flash PROM: 6 MB, CRC-protected for SX, IOX, and control application storage
• DRAM: 16 MB for control applications, program execution, and SOE data with byte parity
• NVRAM: 8 KB, CRC-protected for retentive variables
