Expanding Product Portfolio in Renewable Energy

The acquisition includes critical renewable energy products such as doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines, industrial battery energy storage systems (BESS), and utility-scale solar inverters. As a result, ABB now integrates a comprehensive portfolio capable of addressing the evolving needs of wind and solar power systems worldwide.

Workforce and Global Footprint

Approximately 400 employees join ABB through this acquisition, including key technical talent located in India, China, the United States, and Australia. ABB also inherits two converter factories in Madrid and Valencia. Moreover, ABB signed a supply and service agreement with Siemens Gamesa, ensuring continuity for existing clients.

Renewable Energy Market Opportunities

Gamesa Electric brings over 45 years of experience in power electronics and deep expertise in solar and renewable energy applications. Daniel Gerber, ABB’s Renewable Energy Business Line Manager, highlighted that combining ABB’s global reach with Gamesa Electric’s specialized knowledge accelerates renewable energy adoption worldwide.

Market Growth Projections and Industry Insight

According to the International Energy Agency, global renewable electricity generation is projected to increase from 9,900 TWh in 2024 to 16,200 TWh by 2030. Solar photovoltaic systems will account for more than half of this growth, while wind energy contributes approximately 30%. Consequently, renewable sources are expected to surpass coal by late 2025 or mid-2026, depending on hydropower availability.

ABB’s Commitment to Industrial Automation and Sustainability

ABB, a global leader in electrification and industrial automation, leverages engineering and digital expertise to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability across sectors. The company’s vision, called “Beyond Yourself,” demonstrates a long-term commitment to exceeding industry expectations. With over 140 years of experience and more than 110,000 employees worldwide, ABB continues to deliver innovative control systems, PLC solutions, and factory automation technologies.

Applications and Use Cases

This acquisition strengthens ABB’s capability to deploy advanced renewable energy solutions in utility-scale solar farms, wind parks, and industrial energy storage projects. Engineers can integrate ABB’s enhanced portfolio into existing DCS and PLC frameworks, improving operational reliability and energy efficiency in modern industrial automation systems.
